Strawberry Cheesecake

Introducing...Shuv's secret recipe for Strawberry Cheesecake! It's so good I'm thinking of making one again. Yum~ It's easy and it's not messy. It doesn't require any baking and all you need is a fridge, which I think we all should have lah!

Ingredients: digestive biscuits, sugar, butter, gelatin and...

Tray for the cheesecake

Cream. I thought it was like whip cream - solid, but actually it's in liquid form. (cold joke: Why will I be sad if I am this cream? answer: Because I have a long life but I'll always be single. *cue to laugh*)

Strawberries (You can use mango if you can find mango yogurt)

Strawberry yogurt 2 helpings

Soft Cheese

Steps 1-2-3:

First, smash the digestive biscuits into small pieces. We did so by putting the biscuits into a plastic bag and whacked it with a can opener. You can be creative in doing so (ie sit on it, step on it etc *don't worry we didn't do any of that*), as long as it becomes small little bits.

Pour the sandy biscuit crumbs on the tray

Make the gelatin mixture according to the instructions behind the pack, let it cool down.

We used gloves so that our hands will not be oily

Mix the crumbs with butter and flatten it on the tray

The pastry should look like that. Then put it in the fridge for awhile.

Meanwhile, slice the strawberries

Shuv: Look, tooth strawberry! (It does look very much like tooth)

Put the strawberry slices at the side on the tray and all over the pastry. You can put as much / little as you like. (random: I feel like making banana cheesecake) Put the pastry with strawberries back to the fridge.

Now we make the "cake". Put the cream and yogurt into a seperate bowl.

Stir till it's smooth

Add in soft cheese

Mix with gelatin (note: leave some gelatin for sticking more strawberries on top of the cake when it's done). Add sugar.

Pour the mixture on the pastry and put it in the fridge to solidify.

Once it's done, decorate the top with more strawberries and put a layer of gelatin on top

End result: Tada!

I just finished the final bits of the strawberry cheesecake. It's absolutely lovely. I wish I can have MORE~

Sushi, Fried Noodles & Strawberry Cheesecake

With the success of last week's lunch, we followed up with another gathering today. This time, we decided to make sushi, friend noodles and strawberry cheesecake. Everybody chipped in for the cost of the materials. The main chef was Sek Hao (fried noodles and sushi) and Shuv (sushi and strawberry cheesecake).

Chopped garlics, chillies and onions

4 Eggs + salt + pepper

Fried eggs for the noodles

This time, our attendance was Nush, Ruj, Huw, Shuv and Sek Hao. And me ^_^ Too bad Chris and Mariyam were not around. We were bloated by the end of the session. Fried noodles were fantastic and Sek Hao said I bought a good soy sauce (hehehehehehe!). Oh, we even had wasabi to go with the sushi, how I miss it ^_^

Chef of the day: Sek Hao

Chinese Style Fried noodles with taugeh (beansprouts) and eggs

These are the special sushi made by Shuv. She rolled the sushi rice outside and put sesame seed. So yummy loh!

I rolled some of these. Shuv said: the fat big ones are made by Sek Hao because he's greedy and the small tiny ones are made by me because she's stingy -__________-"

Awesome fried noodles, I ate 2 plates!

Look, Shuv's special recipe homemade melt-in-your-mouth strawberry cheesecake! (look out for my next post for recipe)

My portion. It was crumpled due to the lack of gelatin. Shuv wasn't very satisfied but I am and we all are! *hugs* The base goes so well with the cake!

Shuv got us some Rose Wine (it was Mariyam's if not mistaken). Surprisingly, it tastes quite nice~

From left: Nush, Ruj, me, Sek Hao and Huw (Shuv was the camera man)

Shuv on the second from right. The wonders of self timer.

A marvelous lunch marks the beginning of a wonderful weekend.
Note to self: buy some dark soy sauce and oyster sauce to make my own fried noodles.

ps: Shuv, hope you're okay and healthy now. Sek Hao, thank you very much for cooking for all of us. Enjoy your weekend, lovebirds! :p

Peace & Love

There has been much chaos around several countries around the globe. Besides the financial crisis experienced universally, what saddens me more is the death of many innocent lives in Mumbai. The lost ones will be remembered. Violence is not the way to go but desperation and anger tends to blind us.

I am also aware that protestors have "taken over" Bangkok airport and because I have been there not too long ago, I am also concerned.  I love Bangkok and I hope things will settle down for the benefit of the people at large. Thailand is the place I would recommend anyone to visit someday and I hope I can say the same soon.

Here I am, in a safe haven, protected by my family and surrounded by friends. Yes, I am facing quite a challenge now but I know I am safe and loved. I hope I can share my love to all those in pain. I know my words will not reach your ears but my heart and prayers go to you.

Peace.

Sushi @ Shuv

Last Sunday, Shuv and Sek Hao decided to make sushi for lunch. They bought the necessary ingredients from an Oriental store nearby. I visited the Oriental store today and I fell in love with the variety of food they sell. They have everything, almost. But price can kill.

Enough said, Shuv taught me how to roll sushi. I will not attempt to "teach" you how to do it like the previous post because this time, I didn't do much and the only thing I did was roll sushi. As for how to cook the rice and cutting rolled sushi etc, I have absolutely no idea. Not complaining because I'm not going to be able to make them even if I know the theory part of it.

My Sifu couple ("mou ying" hands :O)

Tin salmon + mayonnaise

Egg strips

Cucumer strips and ham

Flatten sushi rice on 1/3 of the seaweed, put in any filling you feel like and start rolling

Let the master show you how to cut sushi rolls properly

*tiok tiok tiok tiok* (chopping sound)

No japanese food is complete without Miso Soup!

And green tea :D

I wish it's bottomless *hint Bf*

Tada!

More sushi cam whore

The complete japanese lunch

It's possible all because of you ^_^

Can't wait to gobble everything up

Cheesecake dessert

Toffee cheesecake!

Thank you Shuv and Sek Hao. You both made me the happiest person in Nottingham :D Be happy!
