Bar Mess Dinner @ Crowne Plaza

The Bar Mess Dinner is a formal dinner for BVC students where we get to socialise with barristers and judges. Every girl was excited but stressed over the perfect dress, matching shoes and stylish hair. Finally, after much effort, we put on our best and enjoyed the night in full glamour.

I was forgetful enough to leave my camera back home, which explains the limited pictures for the night. The food was alright though there are still room for improvement. I had lamb for main dish, which I enjoyed. The main focus this evening was to talk to barristers and judges in your table. We were arranged to sit with either a barrister or judge beside us so that we get a chance to mingle around during dinner. I must say, it's not easy keeping up with the conversations because I don't know what to say most of the time and I'm also worried about saying the wrong things. Also, knowing that I'm talking to someone so intelligent, I tend to worry over whether I'm asking stupid questions.

But all in all, it was a good healthy social. The girls were absolutely enchanting! Here are some pictures during the night, I've actually got a few more pictures but I'm not bothered to put them up now. I've got to go down to London tomorrow and I'm yet to take off my make up and bathe. Not to mention packing for tomorrow night. Enjoy~

Me, Nush, Shuv and Ruj

Crystal, Me and Shuv (check out her shoes!)

I was wearing Nush's dress. Shuv and Nush decided that the first dress was too formal so I changed. I was also wearing her shoes :D It's been quite awhile since I worn high heels. My hair was perfectly done by Shuv and I did my own make up. All these were prepared at Nush's place. It's really fun getting ready with the girls :)

Nush's dress in full glamour

Showing off my eye :p

The make up: Green, gold and light brown

The lighting doesn't do the make up justice :(

I loved the curls~
Goodnight!

What I'm Going to Wear for Bar Mess Dinner

Shuv's again ^_^

I thought it's really appropriate, not too fancy and just the right one for the formal occasion. I'm going to wear it with skin coloured stockings. I'm thinking of what to do with my hair and I think I'm going to pin them up with a hair comb.

Those shoes are a real torture. I need to practice walking in them. It's been ages since the last time I wore high heels outdoors. Bah!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Every girl out there should watch this.

It's finally out! I've been waiting for this chick flick for ages~ The movie is quite an accurate depiction of the book, though not in detail but in its mood and character. I am aware that a lot of details were not in it (can't blame them, it's a movie anyway) but I like how the producer created similar impressions of how it felt when I was reading the book.

It was hilarious and fun! I think most of us in the cinema had a good laugh :D Shuv and I enjoyed it very much. Definitely a good way of de-stressing and a change of mood. I was all happy and jolly walking back home after the movie.

I don't think I need to bury you in details of the synopsis. Watch it yourself! Oh, unless your boyfriend enjoys chick flicks, this isn't a movie he'll probably want to watch with you. So it's time for some "sisters" bonding!

I wish I have so "much" shoes (+ a gorgeous walk in wardrobe & shoe closet please)

Oh, how can I review this movie without highlighting some of her gorgeous outfits?

Totally pink

I like this outfit: yuppie style with a feminine touch. Love that coat & pencil skirt!

I don't quite like the fur coat but yes to that body of hers.

Oh this dress, I like it but with less frills.

And chick flick being chick flick, how can you not notice the hot HOT guy, hehehe...

Luke *drool*

Absolutely loved her shoes

Happy Ending of course!

Will you bring your boyfriend to watch it?

Salmon Spaghetti

My dinner today was prepared by beloved Shuv, who made salmon spaghetti!!!!! The ingredients are: Two thick slices of salmon fish, garlic, oil, mushrooms, tinned or boxed chopped tomatoes and chili, sugar, olives and some lemon.
  1. Fry the finely chopped garlic, which Shuv is so proud of (hehe).
  2. Put in the Salmon fish.
  3. When it's almost done, add in mushrooms.
  4. Take out the cooked salmon.
  5. Put in chopped tomatoes and chili.
  6. Add sugar for taste.
  7. lastly put in generous portion of olives and some lemon for taste :D
  8. boil spaghetti for 10 minutes and serve!
The salmon is right on top, buried under the tomato sauce.
I LOVE SALMON!

Childhood Flavoured Porridge

Winter began with a massive temperature drop and strong winds. With such temperamental weather, I fell sick. It didn't last very long but instead of eating noodles and rice, I made myself an instant porridge with carrot strips. I found the recipe online and it reminded me of the porridge I had when I was young.

I added vegetable stock for taste and the black spot you see is all time favourite - Marmite.

What to do with cake failure?

Since the last time we baked a chocolate cake for Mariyam, there were quite a bit of flour, caster sugar, butter, self-raising flour leftover. I decided to use some of it to "bake" a creation of my own before some of the stuff expires. I experimented this "baking" thing twice in total.

The first time was quite a success mainly because I had most of the ingredients needed. I didn't follow any recipe in particular. All I did was put in whatever I thought was necessary and however much I like. This turned out:

Chocolate "cake" that taste like something is missing but not too bad. At least it's not very sweet. I think I need more butter and eggs.

It didn't "raise" much like what self-RAISING flour should do. The holes were made by chocolate chips, I think.

I finished the first batch within minutes and decided to give it a second try the next day. This time I had no eggs nor butter left. So I went online to see if I can make something eggless. Apparently, there is such a thing as eggless cake but I still don't have the necessary ingredients. But me being me, I decided to just get on with it anyway, using the same method as yesterday minus the ingredients.

This time, it was hard as rock. I left it in the oven for too long because I forgot about it till Titi came over to knock on my door. By the time I try to save them from the oven, they had turned into chocolate "biscuits". Instead of wasting them, I decided to eat them the-Oreo-way:

Chocolate Rocks and semi-skimmed milk

Dunk it in!

Rocks soaked in milk

And I finished them all while watching drama, hehe!

Chiquito after Exam

We had an Opinion Writing exam today. Everybody had been dreading this week because we had so much preparation work to do. This week was such a long week. The only thing that kept us motivated was lunch at Chiquito (@ Cornerhouse) that'll cost about £10 for 3 course XD

Chiquito - The Original Mexican Grill & Bar

We ordered some Corona while enjoying the precious sunshine. Just yesterday it was snowing and look how bright the sun is now!

Sizzling lemon

Cheers mate! (I was told you have too look at everybody in the eye while toasting or you'll have bad sex with your partner for seven years :o) And yes, that glass of tap water was mine.

Appetisers:

Fiesta Nachos with cheese, guacamole (the green avocado paste which is so yummy!), peppers and enchilada sauce, sour cream and salsa.

Garlic Flatbread with spice

My Shrimp Salad (miss prawns so much~)

Buffalo wings with sour cream

Stuffed peppers with rice, cheese, sauce and sour cream

Main Courses:

Cheese burger with fries and coleslaw

Chimichanga: Fried tortilla wrapped with cheese, rice, jalapenos and beef (we also ordered a similar one that's purely vegetarian too)

My Sizzling Fajitas: Marinated chicken with onions and peppers served with a pile of flour fajitas (I think there were 4/5 of them)

Fiesta Chilli: mixed beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions and carrots served with rice and tortilla wraps.

Desserts:

Banana Taquito with vanilla ice cream and warm fudge sauce

I ordered Pecan Pie because I miss peanuts.

I ate a lot because Nush can't finish hers and I happily gulped them all in my system. So full can die in bliss!

It's been quite awhile since we last get together for food. I enjoyed the wonderful company and the sumptuous lunch. Having nice friends and great food can turn a disastrous week into a wonderful one. Happy Valentines Day everyone! *muaks*

Shit

All of a sudden, I remember all the faults and mistakes I made for my conference exam. It's horrendous. Really it was. I'm worried I may not even pass it now. :(

In Anticipation of Tomorrow

I bought something to look forward to tomorrow morning.

Cupcakes!

I bought them at Waitrose because it was on sale for 17p each. What a steal! XD I'm waiting to buy their donuts next.

Threading on Snow

Walking on snow is like walking on soft cotton candy as long as you're wearing the right shoes.

Shuv's boots that saved my toes from freezing

However, when the snow melts, it becomes ice and that's no fun at all. Everyone on the road will be taking small careful steps on icy grounds. Imagine walking with your normal shoes / sandals / (worst) high heels on the ice skating ring. Every now and then, somebody would be slipping left, right and centre.

Snow turned to ice

The wrong shoe to wear especially on icy grounds. But even boots won't save my sorry butt from falling.

What is it?

Bf said he's got me something for V day! I wonder what it is... hehe... it's on its way to me... *excited* I wish I get some little mails from people every now and then. Somehow, snail mail is still the best :p

Too Late

Now that it's too late, I can come up with numerous things I'd have done differently and improve it. I knew what I should have done and what went wrong now. But it's all too late. Let's just hope it's not as bad as I thought it would be. What really went wrong was me worrying over it and not getting over my nerves. Keeping a clear head is so hard when one is nervous.

Ready!

It's time for a good fight. Bring it on! I shall rise to the occasion and by lunch time tomorrow, I shall be a happy carefree person all over again.

Random pic of how I look like now. I know I know, don't state the obvious!

Choices

It's been a long night yesterday and for once I felt quite sick. Was and still is down with flu and cough. I thought I was feverish but thanks to my abundant supplements and plenty of sleep, no fever, just flu and cough.

It's getting close to July and I've got plenty of options to consider. LLM, Visa, pupillage application etc. There's so much to worry about and so much at stake. I'm conscious that the decision I make will dictate my future. Reminds me of the poem I read in high school:

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;        5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,        10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.        15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.        20

Snow View

It's still snowing! Look at the view from my window! There's also a snowman right outside the entrance to my block. Looks like fun! I'm planning to make one on Friday. The wind is very strong and the snowflakes are flying everywhere. My coat and hair were sprinkled with white snowflakes. I was wearing my black shoes and they were wet. Unfortunately, because many people walked on the street, the snow became puddles of mud.

Snow is so beautiful!
